Oamaru Opera House Director

Oamaru Opera House Director

The award winning 104 year old Oamaru Opera House in beautiful Oamaru is seeking a suitably qualified Venue Director to oversee day to day management and business development of the venue.

The OoH consists of the historic Opera House (a lyric theatre), a black box contemporary theatre, conference and meeting rooms and dedicated public space.

With a clear strategic direction the OoH aims to service the needs of commercial, cultural and community sectors of North Otago and deliver a rich programme of events that promote growth for the Waitaki District.

The successful candidate will have a sound understanding of the venue management industry as well as strategies to identify and deliver commercial outcomes whilst appreciating the arts and community. Previous experience in managing a similar arts venue or events management is essential.

The small nature of the team at the OoH means staff often work across all aspects of the business and work hand in hand with a talented team of volunteer staff. A can do, people focused attitude is paramount.

Reporting to the Community Services General Manager the OoH Director will also perform the function of a Waitaki District Council Unit Manager.  As such the Director will operate within the local government framework reporting and delivering on the agreed community outcomes and contributing to the wider operations of council.

Oamaru is located between Christchurch and Dunedin and provides a unique quality of life boasting world renowned historic and natural environs.
